What is animation?

Animation is a technique to display objects that are drawn in a sequence of movement thereby creating an illusion of moving elements. Images are drawn in 2D or 3D and are produced as GIF, flash or movie files.

What are the different components in movie animation?

The creation of an animation product covers many areas which include Preproduction like Character  Designs, Background Designs, Storyboard, Sound-read and Slugging, Audio Recording, Music Score and Sound effects and Production which include layout, animation, digital backgrounds, clean-up, painting, editing, and checking.
